Daddy Cool Radio Show
Back in the 1980's, I listened to this fantastic radio station, CFNY FM 102.1, The Spirit of Radio. The Spirit was the little station that could. CHUM FM had shifted to an MOR/AOR format; CILQ "Q-107" was playing the stuff that CHUM FM used to play. The FM airwaves were pretty sterile and even cloyingly sweet in those days. Up the dial at 102.1, there was this unusual and refreshing station. They were "alternative" long before there was such a genre.
For the best synopsis and overview of the station in that era, check out http://www.spiritofradio.ca/. As much as I loved The Spirit, that is not specifically why I'm posting this.
Every Monday night, at 10:00 PM, The Daddy Cool Show was aired. I managed to track down "Daddy Cool" [aka Dave Booth] and he's still "on the air" on WhiStle FM 102.7 FM from Stouville, Ontario.

I found a cassette copy of a show from March 23rd, 1987. I emailed Dave to see if I could get permission to post this recording to youtube. Here is a copy of the email I sent:
"Hi Dave!
Back in the days of "The Spirit", I'd record different programs on to my open reel, and then dub/edit them to cassette. Well, over the years, all of my original reels and copied cassettes, have been lost, destroyed or taped over. I went digging through my boxes of old cassettes and found a copy of "The Daddy Cool Show" from either March 23 or March 30, 1987. You did a feature on Hank Ballard, and of course, there were a lot of other artists on the show.
Back in the heyday of the "The Spirit", I didn't respect ©, and usually had my tapedeck cued and ready to record the next rare track to be aired! There are still rare remixes and tracks that I'd only heard perhaps one time, and have kept my eye out for in the local used record shop and charity type stores. "Back in the day" I worked in a record store in Fergus, Ontario, and I'd accompany my boss to the warehouses for Records on Wheels and The Record Peddlar to get stock [making sure there was a substantial CFNY influenced portion of the order;-) ].
But to go back to the point here. I suspect that for me to post [on youtube] the above mentioned Daddy Cool program would definitely be a violation of ©, even numerous ©'s, but I think I have a historically significant piece of "The Spirit" and The Daddy Cool Show. The cassette is over 25 years old. It would be a shame to lose this piece of musical history.
Sincerely,
Douglas"
I got the following reply from Dave's current producer!
"Hi Douglas:
Dave is not on e-mail but I am his Producer and I've just read him your message. he was "over the moon" - his expression. He said it makes him feel old - but very proud. Incidentally this is the third message this week from listeners from the old days.
Dave would love it if you put the show on youtube - I can pretty much guarantee that if it is up, it will get a mention on his show!
Regards
